Due to the high temperatures required for burn-off oven afterburners to treat VOCs, afterburner insulation must be very stable in high-temperature environments. Afterburners are most often insulated with high-temperature ceramic fiber, yet not all types of ceramic fiber insulation are created equal.
Thermal afterburners, or oxidizers, will typically have either ceramic fiber block insulation or vacuum-formed ceramic fiber sleeves for insulation. Though both can ultimately accomplish the job, vacuum-formed ceramic fiber sleeves have several advantages over ceramic block.
Because the vacuum forming process allows ceramic fiber sleeves to be produced at custom sizes and shapes, it creates a much more seamless insulation than ceramic block. In addition, afterburners can be “wetlined” with vacuum-formed sleeves, meaning the insulation is essentially formed to the afterburner instead of trying to form ceramic blocks to the afterburner. The more seamless insulation results in greater efficiency. Additionally, the vacuum-forming process greatly reduces the installation time associated with ceramic block insulation.
Danser’s patented vacuum-formed ceramic fiber insulation is called Vacuduct©. In addition to being stable in high-temperature environments, Vacuduct is also chemically stable, resistant to thermal shock and has low heat storage. Available in both 2300°F and 2600°F fiber, Vacuduct is well-suited for the afterburner environment, as well as numerous other high-temperature components and systems, including:
- Exhaust stacks
- High-temperature ductwork
- High-temperature dampers
- Coffee roasters
- Riser tubes
- Combustor stacks
- Waste heat recovery systems
Danser offers another advantage of being able to fabricate not just the insulation, but also the metal for these components and systems. Designing and fabricating a comprehensive system often proves to be more efficient and effective than piecemealing the system from multiple suppliers. Customers will find the Danser service and subject matter expertise especially advantageous when working with high-temperature systems. Contact us to experience the Danser Difference.
